On the ground, Fired up

Well, I got the wiring done.  I fired it up last night at midnight, might have pissed off the neighbors but I dont give a fuck!  I will post a video of me riding it in the next couple days.  Forgot to buy sealer washers for the banjos so I got get some of those and get the brakes dialed in then I will be riding it.

A lot of people here in my apartment complex like to throw away bed frames.  I live right across from the dumpster so when there is one over there I go and grab it.  With one of those bed frames I fabbed up a ramp to get this pig off the wooden stand/table I have been building it on.  I could have spent $70 and bought an aluminum one but fuck it this one was free, just took a couple hours to build it.  Here is the bike sitting on the ground.  Enjoy

CoC

So last year Jeff Wright put out a deal to the followers of his blog, Church of Choppers.  If you dont follow this blog do yourself a favor and start.  Great stuff from road racing to choppers and lots of other cool shit.  Anyway the deal "Save a biker, kill a deer" was "Tag" a dead deer along the road, take a picture of it and send it in, in return you would get a T-Shirt.  So I decided this was pretty sweet and put a can of spray paint in the cage.  Now my wife was not very excited about this, you should have heard her when I told her about it.  Then on are way back from vacation I had the opportunity to do some tagging.  You should have heard the wife when I was doing it, hahahaha it was good stuff.  Anyway I got a package in the mail the other day and this is what was inside.

I am super pumped, thanks Jeff the shirt is killer!

Getting closer

So I know I have been slacking on the posting.  It is a mix of a couple reasons, not sure if anyone even looks at this shit and I have been busy wrenching and building.  Anyway here are a few shots I snapped tonight.  I have to wire, run oil and brake lines, mount the carb and pipes and that is pretty much it, for now anyway.  Here you go.

Lighting really sucks I know, sorry
Tank looks okay from a distance but I am not 100% happy with it.

I cant wait to get this bitch on the ground so I can really get back and look at it.  A one car garage just isn't wide enough, maybe I should have put the table the across the garage not down the length.

Coil Mount and Electronics

Well, I got the coil mount finished a while ago but I see I didn't post it so here it is.

So I could not decide how to mount my electronics.  My buddy Jimmy was over last week and we discussed it and came up with this idea.  I think it turned out pretty slick.  Put some "speed holes" in it today to make it look a little better and not so blocky.

I also got the everything on the frame welded.  Should be able to put some rattle bomb on it soon.  Just need to button up the gas tank the its paint and reassembly.  All the paint is going to be rattle bomb for now, get the "shake down" done then proper paint/powder coat.

Rolling Thunder

Not typically my type of event but it was on "bucket list" of motorcycle stuff.  That and being in the DC area for 3 years now and being active duty I felt it was time to go hang out with thousands of other bikers.  Did not really see any of my style of bike there, lots and lots of baggers.  With a lot of folks riding in from hundreds of miles away the baggers make sense.

Anyway, this was a very humbling experience.  The sitting in the Pentagon parking lot for 5 hours sucked but that was all quickly forgotten when I started rolling and saw a sea of proud americans out to say thanks and support such a great cause.  I actually got a little misty eyed at one point ( I know I am a fucking pussy).  I came across two younger girls that hand a sign up that said "Thanks for our freedom."  It just hit me, nice to see there are people out there that give a fuck and will take some time out of there lives to say thanks.

This might not be your type of thing but if you are into motorcycles, proud to be an american, and thankful for the your freedom to go get on your bike and ride where every you want, then I suggest adding this to you "bucket list."  You will not be disappointed.  Here are a few pictures I took.  I didn't take any while riding.  One of my buddies had his girl with him so I let her take the pictures.  Still waiting to get those.

Upper Motor Mount

So I had a decision to make about the upper motor mount.  I really wanted to mount the coil between the cylinders but I wanted to make it out of round stock.  Well, I fucked with a few different options that I thought of but nothing seemed to look right with the round stock and the coil.  So my buddy Jimmy hooked me up with a stock style mount. So I used that and built off of it.  I fabbed up a stock style mount to go off the frame.  Then I used the mount I got from Jimmy and modified part of it so that I can build a coil mount.  Here you go here are some pictures.

So here is the start of the coil mount.  I will trim down the part attached to the motor so the up right part sits closer.  I am also not 100% set on putting the switch there.  Thinking about trying to find somewhere else to mount it or to run no keyed switch and just a flip on/off switch somewhere.  What do you all think?

Mounted

Well got the rear mounts for the exhaust done today.  Just need to finish up cleaning the welds and smoothing everything out then off to coating.  Here you go, some pictures.

Tips

Well got the fishtail tips welded on.  Talk about a pain in the ass.  I ordered them off eBay and it said the pide was 1 3/4" OD.  Sweet same as I am using, just cut the straight to the length I need and weld them together.  Well, got them and it was 1 3/4" ID.  Mother fucker, more time getting this to work.  So I had to take a piece of each straight and cut them and squeeze one end to get it to cone down to 1 3/4 OD.  Turned out okay, still kinda pissed I had to do it and I am not 100 percent happy with how it turned out.  Still need to clean everything up and get the mounts done.  Here are some pictures

Exhaust

Got the exhaust on its way to being done.  Main shape and design there, just need to figure out final length, put the fish tips on,  figure out heat shield and figure out mounting points.  Fuck I need to get this thing done so I can ride.

Battery Box/Oil Filter Mount/Electrical Box

Well I finally got the Battery Box/Oil Filter Mount/Electrical Box all done.  I will fully weld it to the frame after tear down.  Things are getting closer.  I still need to build the exhaust, figure out the gas tank (dont think I am going to use the one I already modified, didn't do a good enough job), and figure out the upper motor mount.  Enough babble here are the pictures

Finally a good productive night

So I have not posted in awhile, sorry, been working on the bike when I can but things have not been going well.  Got to work a little tonight on the bike and things went well.  I got the rear fender mounted and the sissy bar all done.  Hopefully I will be getting things wrapped up soon as riding season has started.

Less Time Now

Well, my little man got here last Thursday and he is pretty fucking awesome!

I got a little time in the garage tonight.  With that time I got the gas tank buttoned up.  Just need to leak test it, weld the rib on, and weld the filler neck in.   I also got the mounting tabs tacked into place as well.  I dont know if I am screwing myself with waiting to finish weld everything after I tear down to frame again, we will see.  Anyway here you go starting to look more like a bike

Seat and tank

So the wife still has not had TJ, so I got some more time in the garage today.  Got the seat spring perches and mount tacked into place.  Like other thing I will finish weld them both once I tear it back down.

I also got the gas tank bottom welded in.  I still need to weld the cap and petcock bungs in and test it.  Hopefully it doesn't leak like a siv.

Taillight and Brake Stay

So I got the mount for my taillight made up and ready to be mounted.  I am waiting until I get the plate mount attached to the sissy bar before I weld the taillight mount onto the sissy bar too.  I also got a custom lens finished up.  It has tiny air bubbles in it, little upset about it but this is the second one and is a little better.  I might make another one in the future to hopefully eliminate the air bubbles but we will see.

I also got the rear brake stay tacked into place.  I will finish weld it after I tear down and can get to it easier.
